Location description: Central Charlotte
A unique creek: Birthplace of Charlotte. The first official resident of what is now Charlotte built his homestead in the Upper Little Sugar Creek watershed. In about 1755, Thomas Spratt built a cabin at what is now the corner of Caswell and Randolph Roads. His home also served as Mecklenburg County’s first courthouse in 1763.
Name game: Little Sugar Creek is often confused with
Sugar Creek. Parts of the two watersheds are side by side, with Sugar Creek to the west and Little Sugar Creek to the east.
