Content3 Since 1998, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has been restoring segments of McAlpine Creek and its surrounding floodplain.
The McAlpine Watershed is one of the largest in Mecklenburg County, stretching from Hickory Grove to Crown Point to Ballantyne.
Rapid development in South Charlotte has increased sediment levels and caused the stream to be listed on the State's list of Impaired Waterways.
The projects include correcting severe bank erosion, reshaping floodplains to restore their natural function, and reducing pollutant levels in the creek.
