Fees for drinking water and for storm water are billed together to make it simpler for both fee-payers and local government. The charges are shown on the City/County Services bill, often called the water bill. The
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department (CMUD) maintains the data base and handles the billing and collection of both fees.
However, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and CMUD are separate agencies with separate budgets. Money from Storm Water fees does not pay for municipal water or sanitary sewer service programs. Likewise, funds collected by CMUD for water and sewer service do not pay for Storm Water programs to reduce flooding or pollution.
