Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District Staff 

Leslie N Vanden Herik, Conservation District Manager
Leslie joined the District in February of 2008.  Leslie oversees day to day operations of the District under the guidance of the board and manages the Districts cost share and technical programs and services.  She holds a Bachelors degree in Biology from UNC Charlotte and has completed graduate coursework in both Earth and Soil Sciences at UNC Charlotte and NC State University.  In her free time Leslie enjoys working in her garden and playing with her four crazy dogs.
Anganette Byrd, District Secretary/Education Coordinator
Anganette joined the District in 1999.  Anganette provides administrative support to the Board and coordinates the District's education programs, including contests, Envirothon and Resource Conservation Workshop.  She is currently working towards her North Carolina Environmental Education Certification.  Anganette enjoys working with young students to teach them about natural resource conservation issues.  In her free time, Anganette enjoys volunteering and spending time with her family.

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Staff 

Christopher Childers, District Conservationist
Ch​ris joined NRCS in 2010 as a Soil Conservation Technician assigned to the Brown Creek Soil and Water Conservation District and took over as the District Conservationist for the Cabarrus, Gaston and Mecklenburg Districts in 2011.  Chris administers federal cost share programs and provides technical assistance to agricultural producers in the three county work unit.  He holds a Bachelors degree fin Natural Resource Management from Western Carolina and a Masters degree in Forest Management from Clemson University.  In his free time, Chris enjoys hunting and spending time with his wife and puppy.
