Food Waste Recycling

In 2011, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools received a Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant to support the introduction of a milk and juice carton recycling program in its cafeterias.

The program was implemented in 2012, and in that year alone, CMS diverted an astonishing 8,000,000 milk and juice cartons to recycling. CMS has now gained national recognition for their Milk/Juice Carton Recycling program. It was one of the first programs of its magnitude on the East Coast and every year, additional CMS schools adopt the program in their cafeterias.

Additional posters and recycling bins (as seen in the photo below) are available at no cost to CMS Schools.
