Mission of the Program
Recognize and reward Mecklenburg County businesses that are committed to building a strong community and foster an environment of stewardship to reduce, reuse and recycle waste in the workplace and purchase recycled products.

Associate | Advocate | Ambassador
Goals
- Establish the Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Business Recognition Program.
- Build Mecklenburg County businesses' commitment to waste reduction, recycling, stewardship and sustainability.
- Foster an environment that provides Mecklenburg County businesses ongoing mentoring, education and networking opportunities.
- Drive business community loyalty and promote and reward excellence for recycling and sustainability initiatives.
- Develop Measurement Tools to track and ensure efficacy.
- Recognize and reward Mecklenburg County businesses that reduce, reuse and recycle workplace waste an purchase recycled products as standard business practice.
Levels of Participation

ASSOCIATE
- Received a Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Membership Form and Pledge
- Enrolled in Wipe Out Waste Ambassador program and signed Pledge Card
- Became aware of the SSO and, if applicable, is now compliant
- Receives and regularly posts Wipe Out Waste Ambassador eblasts/announcements
- Practices and promotes at least (3) Waste Prevention Strategies such as:
- Reduce use of electricity
- Participate in Opt Out Program for Junk Mail & Phone Calls
- Reduce Packaging
- Set copier for double-sided copying
- Carries out at least (1) Recycling Strategy such as:
- Recycle Cardboard
- Recycle Plastic Beverage Containers
- Recycle Ink Cartridges
- Recycle Plastic Wrap
- Recycle Paper

AMBASSADOR
- Received a Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Membership Form and Pledge
- Enrolled in Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Program and signed Pledge Card
- Is aware of the SSO and, if applicable, is compliant
- Receives and regularly posts Wipe Out Waste Ambassador eblasts / announcements
- Practices and promotes at least (5) Waste Prevention Strategies such as:
- Reduce use of electricity
- Participate in Opt Out Program for Junk Mail & Phone Calls
- Reduce Packaging
- Copier set for double-sided copying
- Carries out at least (5) Recycling Strategies such as:
- Recycle Cardboard
- Recycle Plastic Beverage Containers
- Recycle Ink Cartridges
- Recycle Plastic Wrap
- Recycle Paper
- Mentors a Recycling Associate
- Conducts an Educational program (minimum one per year)
- Lunch & Learn
- Employee Review of Business Waste Reduction Activities
- Is aware of (3) types of Mecklenburg County Recycling Centers and the potential they possess to reduce waste
- Promotes On-Site Waste Reduction
- Ensures site Waste Reduction programs are implemented
- Posts and/or distributes miscellaneous Waste Reduction information
- Creates directory or download access for Mecklenburg County's "Resource Guide for Commercial Waste Reduction and Recycling" (a copy of which can be found on the County's website.)
- Actively promotes Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Program
- Agrees to mentor businesses interested in recycling that are recommended by the County
- Buys recycled products (does business with other Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Program companies)

ADVOCATE
- Received a Wipe Out Waste Ambassador Membership Form and Pledge
- Enrolled in Wipe Out Waste Ambassador program and signed Pledge Card
- Is aware of the SSO and, if applicable, is compliant
- Receives and regularly posts Wipe Out Waste Ambassador eblasts / announcements
- Practices and promotes at least (4) Waste Prevention Strategies such as:
- Reduce use of electricity
- Participate in Opt Out Program for Junk Mail & Phone Calls
- Reduce Packaging
- Set copier for double-sided copying
- Carries out at least (2) Recycling Strategies such as:
- Recycle Cardboard
- Recycle Plastic Beverage Containers
- Recycle Ink Cartridges
- Recycle Plastic Wrap
- Recycle Paper
- Mentors a Recycling Associate
- Conducts an Educational Program (minimum one per year)
- Lunch & Learn
