GENERAL INFORMATION
Park and Recreation will hold information and operational meetings to provide updates on the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex. Phase 1 (5 synthetic multi-purpose fields) of the Sportsplex is under construction and it is scheduled to be substantially completed by July 2013, with the grand opening planned in September 2013. here. Fields will be available for tournament play beginning September 6-8, 2013.
When completed, the facility will house 12 multi-use fields capable of holding a variety of events such as; soccer, lacrosse, football and rugby. To view the proposed Master Plan please click here. To view current construction progress, see the ‘Construction’ heading below.
Staff will update the Mecklenburg County Athletics Advisory Council and anyone from the general public on the plans to host practices, games and tournaments at the facility. The meeting with the Advisory Council will be held on Monday, March 25, at 6pm, at the Park and Recreation Administrative Office Building, 5841 Brookshire Blvd.
Staff will use this opportunity to explain the weekend tournament request information, general reservation information and operations of the facility. A main focus for this facility will be large weekend tournaments. We will be accepting requests for tournaments scheduled September 7, 2013 – June 29, 2014. All weekend tournament requests are due by close of business on April 8, 2013. For information on how to submit your weekend tournament request(s), see the ‘Tournament Reservation’ heading below. A tournament director’s meeting will take place in April 2013 and staff will conduct drawings for open dates for weekend tournaments. Tournament Directors that have correctly submitted their requests will be personally invited to that meeting.
The focus of this facility will be to host a wide variety of weekend tournaments; soccer, rugby, lacrosse, football, etc. We will also be scheduling weekday practices and league play for local teams and organizations.
