Romare Bearden Park will offer fitness and cultural arts programs throughout the year. Here is an overview:

Bearden Music Series
: Held once a month, April through September. Each month a different genre of music will be performed with additional programming supporting the music style. There will be a total of six performances.

Music Box Lunch Series: These are small informal musical presentations featuring local and regional talent performing, 11:30 am – 1 pm, on Wednesdays and Fridays, April through September. There will be a total of 56 performances.

Romare Bearden ParkParty in the Park Series: This is a series of weekly performances featuring new and upcoming talent. The series will run April through June for a total of 11 performances. 

Art and Photography Classes: Free Art and Photography classes will be offered to the public on our Art in the Park Saturdays, which occur once a month, March through October. Artists and Art teaches will be hired to run the classes; Park and Recreation will supply a limited amount of supplies. Participants will need to sign up on line ahead of time so that supplies can be purchased. There will be no fee for this program.

Art Show: These shows will feature regional artists and art leagues. There will be five shows a year (April, May, July, September and November). The shows will take place on either our Art in the Park weekends and at our two major festivals each year.

Fitness Program: The fitness program proposes to provide high quality, full-service fitness programming, scheduling and support at Romare Bearden Park on a weekly, and monthly reoccurring basis. Programs include weekly Yoga, Tai Chi and Boot Camp sessions. There will be a monthly Fitness program for Special Populations and also monthly Specialty Workshops. Some of the classes included in the Specialty Workshops will be Self Defense, Line dancing, and a Cooking Light Series.

Shakespeare in the Park: The Charlotte Shakespeare Company will preform for a three week period (one show daily) on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and two shows on Sunday. Along with the performances will be workshops for patrons and visits to the Park by the Actors in costume to promote their shows.

Romare Bearden Birthday Bash: This will be an annual Festival that will be held over Labor Day weekend which is the closest to the actual September 2nd birthday of Romare Bearden. This will be a two-day event full of musical entertainment, dance and art. There will be feature bands on both Friday and Saturday nights with regional talent playing throughout the Saturday. There will also be at least one Dance performance and the Art show will be expanded upon. Family friendly activities will be run throughout the day

Jack-O-Lanterns Light the Night: This is a family event held in the park during the month of October. There will be pumpkins to carve, contests and lots of children friendly games. The event will be supported with a least one musical act during the day.

Winter Wonderland: This event is a family friendly event held in the late afternoon to evening on a Saturday in December. It will feature the park lit for Christmas, Holiday musical presentations, hot chocolate accompanied by light food and a visit from Santa.

Santa’s Workshop: This event is a family friendly event held in the morning to afternoon on a Saturday in December. There will be a sided tent provided. Inside the tent there will be several “workshops” set up where youth can go to make Christmas crafts and presents. These workshops will be managed by staff or artist from the community. We will also provide a wrap station with the opportunity for the youth to design their own wrapping paper. In the background will be holiday music, hot chocolate and light snacks. Parents will need to accompany their children.

Easter egg Hunt: This is an old fashion Easter egg hunt. Eggs (plastic with surprises inside) will be hid throughout a designated portion of the park. Children are invited to bring their baskets to collect as many eggs as they can. We will divide the hunt into age specific groups starting at different times or at the same time in different areas of the park. The hunt will be backed up with child friendly games and activities.

Romare Bearden ParkRomareFest: This will be a yearly Festival that will kick off our Spring Season in the park. This will be a two-day event full of musical entertainment, dance and art. There will be feature bands on both Friday and Saturday nights with regional talent playing throughout the Saturday. There will also be at least one Dance performance and the Art show will be expanded upon. Family friendly activities will be run throughout the day.
