The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department now offers local residents the opportunity to rent their own garden space. Get your garden gloves and shovels ready and get outdoors to enjoy the harvest. If you don't have space in your own yard, plant your flowers and vegetables at one of your local community garden spots. To get started, please fill out a community gardens application and e-mail or mail it to the address listed during the registration period.
Garden areas have been developed throughout the county at designated park sites that can be rented for $20.00/year for a various plot size. The average Mecklenburg County garden plot is 10 foot X 10 foot. Please wait until application approval before sending payment.
Currently all plots in the community gardens are full, and those plots that do become open are being filled by Mecklenburg residents who have been place on the plot waiting list.
Applications for garden plots are still being accepted and individuals are being added to respective garden location waiting lists.
Plot renewal occurs in December and January of each year. If individuals decide not to renew their plots or do not express an intent to renew their plots, then plots will be reassigned to those on the waiting list or a new garden applicant.
A waiting list will be created for gardens that reach their maximum capacity; applicants will be notified that they have been placed on the waiting list for their specific garden location.
