Mecklenburg County Unveils Newest Statue!
6/12/2013
Mecklenburg County Public Information (BSSA-PI) won a bronze Telly Award for a public service announcement produced as part of its sestercentennial celebration.
Titled “Mecklenburg Minute: Civil Rights,” the one-minute video segment features former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt narrating the history of the Civil Rights Movement in Mecklenburg County. Gantt was the first African-American mayor of Charlotte and the first African-American student admitted to Clemson University.

Mecklenburg County is celebrating its sestercentennial – or 250th birthday – in 2013. The “Mecklenburg Minute” video series highlights important local events and each is narrated by a prominent community citizen. The videos air on local television and online at Mecklenburg250.org. New videos are produced monthly through December 2013.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards is a premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable video and film productions. The Telly Awards is a widely known and respected national and international competition and receives over 12,000 entries annually from all 50 states and many foreign countries.
