Board of County Commissioners Votes to Terminate County Manager
At its regular meeting on May 7, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners voted 6-2 to terminate the employment of County Manager Harry L. Jones Sr. without cause.
Commissioner George Dunlap was not present during the meeting.

Jones was employed by Mecklenburg County for more than 20 years. He served as County Manager since 2000. The Board has appointed General Manager Bobbie Shields as interim County Manager.

“I want to thank my friend Harry Jones for his decades of service to this community,” said Shields. “I appreciate the opportunity to lead this great organization, and ask for the support of the Board, County employees and the public.”

See video of Bobbie Shields taking the oath of office on May 8.
