Reentry services are available to both youth and adult inmates. These voluntary programs prepare inmates for successful reentry into the community. Inmates in our reentry programs participate in specialized classes to include vocational awareness, and vocational preparedness, substance abuse prevention and education, life skills, anger management, and making healthy life style decisions. Inmates in our reentry program participate in classes directly in the housing units beginning in the morning through the afternoon, Monday through Friday.

CASE MANAGEMENT
The Department of Social Services and other community partners provide one on one case management services to male and female inmates in need of post release services.

Reentry Classes

Basic Construction: Participants learn basic construction skills, proper use of hand tools, basic tool safety, and an introduction to blueprint reading.

Carpentry: This 4 week course provides construction apprentices; current craft workers; and others with a certification of competency in basic construction knowledge. Topics covered in one semester include safety practices; construction math; blueprint reading; hand tool use; power tool use; building materials, fasteners; and adhesives. Competency testing is required for area certification and will be both in written and practical form. This program includes classroom and Lab instruction Inmates must meet eligibility criteria. Culinary Program: This 6 week course provides 3-2 week sessions of instruction for the following Kitchen Basics, Serve Safe, and Retail Basics.  You will gain and understanding of food service and retail concepts.  You will develop marketable food service skills that will assist in employee readiness in the Food Service Industry.
Employment Readiness- The purpose of this course is to help inmates identify work interests and job skills. It is designed to teach participants the interview process with special emphasis on potential questions and pitfalls.

Employment Retention: The student will evaluate the skills and commitment necessary to successfully operate an entrepreneurial venture.

Entrepreneurship: Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of a small business, how it functions, and the details of making the business successful. Participants also learn the components of a basic business plan.

Horticulture Program: Inmates learn skills related to horticulture and greenhouse operations.   This program includes classroom and Lab instruction. Inmates must meet eligibility criteria. JN/JC

Landscaping Design: The landscape design classes introduce students to landscaping terminology, garden design, horticulture skills, and landscape construction.  Participants learn about plant selection for different conditions, soil preparation, irrigation systems, lighting systems and landscape drawing and design.

OSHA Safety Training: This is a ten hour course designed to teach individuals the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of construction safety and health hazards in the workplace.

Reentry Pod Programs: Reentry Programs are available to adult male inmates housed at Jail Central, (5500) and at Jail North (HM). Reentry programs that are provided to individuals in these PODS include employment readiness and retention, entrepreneurship, anger management, health education, parenting, yoga, meditation and basic and advanced life skills. These structured programs are offered Monday through Friday, 9 am – 4 pm.

Weatherization and Energy Audit: This class is designed to give students basic information about energy auditing.  Students will learn the terminology learned in the fields, they will learn about the tools used in performing and energy audit. Health and safety will be discussed.  Students will be introduced to the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and certification requirements.
