During the County Manager’s Recommended Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) Budget presentation to the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners at its regular meeting on May 15, 2012, County Manager Harry Jones outlined some of the start-up costs to transition Health Department services from the CHS contract to County provision effective July 2013.
In the County Manager’s Recommended Budget, he has recommended the creation of 470 new positions without funding in FY13 to give the County the authority to conduct a recruiting and hiring process for the Health Department positions that will begin employment July 1, 2013 (FY14). Later this summer, the County will provide a more detailed timeline for the hiring process it will conduct during this next year.
Additionally, the County Manager has included funding for 17 new County Health Department positions to be hired early in FY13 to prepare for the full transition. Once the FY13 Budget is adopted, the County will begin posting these 17 approved positions on the County Human Resources website
. When the positions are posted, a notice will be posted to this site and an alert will be sent to subscribers
to this site.
For current Carolinas HealthCare System Public Health employees, the County will guarantee employees an interview for the position that is the most closely equivalent to the employees’ current position. The County’s goal is to continue to provide high quality public health services without disruption of services to patients and the community. As the transition moves forward, the County will provide further updates to employees, the public and the Board.
The Board of County Commissioners plans to adopt the final budget on June 5, 2012. For more information about the County’s budget process, visit the County’s main website
