There are over 2700 food service facilities operating in Mecklenburg County and the number is increasing daily. F&FS Program staff issue permits for operation of these facilities and are required to conduct over 10,000 facility inspections per year to help maintain high levels of sanitation for protection of public health. In addition, staff review plans for new construction, existing facilities and remodeling of facilities, investigate requests of insanitary conditions and poor foodhandling practices, and provide educational information to workers to help prevent foodborne illnesses.
