Charlotte-Mecklenburg Governmental Retirees Association

Working Together in Public Trust/Retired Together in Mutual Benefit

Objective

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Governmental Retirees Association (CMGRA) was chartered in 1984 to provide a forum for retired employees of the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to unite in a close bond of mutual interest; organize social activities for retirees; generate an interest in the well-being and welfare of retirees; promote civic pride; and to encourage local officials and legislators to enact legislation which benefits local government retirees.

The CMGRA meets the fourth Tuesday of February, April, June, August, and October at 9:30 a.m. at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church located at 101 West Sugar Creek Rd. in Charlotte (corner of West Sugar Creek Rd. and North Tryon St.). In December there is a holiday luncheon held at various locations.

Meetings/Programs/Events

CMGRA offers a variety of programs, meetings, and events of interest to retirees. These include:
  • Updates from City and County Human Resources Departments and the North Carolina Retired Governmental Employees’ Association – http://ncrgea.com/
  • Speakers and seminars on topics pertinent to retirees
  • Support of a variety of local charities
  • Lunch at all meetings
  • Door prizes and raffle items
  • Social gatherings outside meetings
Membership Information

Membership dues are $25 per year for active and associate members. For a spouse who is also a retiree, membership dues are only $15 per year. CMGRA’s annual dues fund a newsletter, provide scholarships, and fund programs for the association. The membership year is July 1 through June 30.

Lifetime memberships are available at a substantial savings based on your age as follows:

We invite retired City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County employees to join the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Governmental Retirees Association for fellowship, fun, and the opportunity to stay abreast of information and activities of interest to retirees.
