Criminal Justice Citizen's Advisory Committee

The Criminal Justice Citizen's Advisory Committee (CJCAC) was formed by the Board of County Commissioners in response to recommendations of the 2008 Justice & Public Safety Task Force which called for the establishment of a permanent citizen's committee to promote collaboration and coordination across all components of the criminal justice system.

The CJCAC is comprised of thirteen members with one representative from each of the County's six districts, the local bar association, the school system, the faith community, law enforcement, substance abuse services, and offender rehabilitation.  During meetings, committee members discuss an array of issues, interview guest speakers from justice agencies, and pinpoint areas of concern.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promote collaboration/coordination across all components of the Mecklenburg County criminal justice system
  • Seek and explore methods to improve all aspects of the criminal justice system
  • Review the nature, scope, and critical issues associated with the criminal justice system
  • Review the performance of the criminal justice system
  • Respond to Board of County Commissioners and staff requests for advice on matters related to the comprehensive criminal justice system in Mecklenburg County
  • Present the Board of County Commissioners an annual report of key actions and issues

The CJCAC meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. All meetings are open to the public.
