Vision 2020 Forum Feedback

Over 50 residents attended the Vision 2020 Forum held at the Queens Sports Complex located at Marion Diehl Park on November 11, 2010.  Through facilitated, small group discussions, participants said Mecklenburg County is a great place to live, work and play for individuals and families for the following reasons:

  • Feels like a town within a city (a mix of neighborhoods and places to live)
  • Spirit of cooperation and collaboration
  • Variety of arts and culture, sports and amenities (places to play)
  • Aesthetically beautiful, clean and welcoming
  • Capacity to respond to crises

Participants stated they would like to see more resources directed to:

  • Economic development (attracting, developing and supporting businesses, including job creation/training)
  • Affordable housing
  • Libraries
  • Education and human services
  • Environment: air and water quality

When asked what should be done to ensure Mecklenburg County continues be a great place to live, work, and recreate for individuals and families, participants said to focus on:

  • Efficiency, accountability and transparency to build trust
  • Collaborating and using partnerships to leverage resources
  • Revising the educational model and review how schools are funded
  • Increasing the diversity of businesses
  • Air and water quality
  • Consolidating services
