John McGillicuddy is assistant county manager. In this role, John provides executive oversight of the Business Support Services Agency (BSSA), Office of Management and Budget, Board of Elections, Risk Management, Clerk to the Board and Citizen Involvement. As a member of the Executive Team, he shares responsibility for overall County executive administration.
John has been with Mecklenburg County since 1991, joining the Public Information Department (PI) as a public information specialist. He was promoted to PI director in 1994. In October 2000, he was named interim assistant county manager, and then served as executive assistant to the County manager from December 2000 to November 2002. John was appointed to the position of general manager in November 2002 (retitled as assistant county manager in 2013).
John earned a bachelor of science degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He also holds a master's degree in organizational change and leadership from Pfeiffer University. He is a Fellow of the American Leadership Forum in Charlotte (Class V) and a graduate of Leadership Charlotte (Class XX).
