Dena Diorio was selected as county manager beginning on January 1, 2014. Prior to serving as county manager, Dena served as an assistant county manager and provided executive oversight of the County’s Financial Services Department, which includes Central Finance and Human Services Finance. She also provides executive oversight of the Office of the Tax Collector, MeckLINK Finance and Compliance, Child Support Enforcement, and the Assessor’s Office. She is also responsible for implementing key aspects of the County’s Compliance Program. She is liaison to Central Piedmont Community College and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. As a member of the Executive Team, she shares responsibility for overall County executive administration.
Dena joined Mecklenburg County in 2007 as director of the Department of Financial Services. Prior to joining Mecklenburg County, Dena served as Director of Finance and Personnel for the City of Danbury, CT.
Dena earned her bachelor of science degree in social services from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She earned a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University. She serves as Vice Chair of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Committee on Governmental Debt Management. Along with the staff at the Human Services Finance Division she was awarded the 2012 State Treasurer’s Award for Excellence in Accounting and Financial Management for the creation of that Division.
