Building Division Scope of Services:
 

 

  • To enforce the North Carolina Building Codes, by inspecting all new Commercial and Residential type construction also including alteration, additions, remodeling and rehabilitation.
  • Research and develop code interpretations
  • Investigate reports and appearance of work being done without permits.
  • To inspect any commercial site that has a change of  occupancy requiring permit.
  • To inspect any commercial site that changed ownership, or business classification for the public safety related to ABC licensing.
  • Assist customers in code violation resolutions to achieve compliance.
  • Provide monthly consistency meetings, open to the general public, designed to ensure uniform enforcement application of codes.
  • Communicate action/proposed action to necessary agencies, and affected parties
  • To serve the public in time of disasters by assisting in the observation and assessment of damaged structures by providing a specialty trained team within the department called S.E.R.T (State Emergency Response Teams)
