Impact of Federal Government Shutdown
Funding for some local services has been impacted by the Federal Government shutdown including the WIC and Work First programs. If the shutdown continues, Childcare Subsidies could be affected as well. Currently no County employees are on furlough but the County is drafting a furlough policy in the event that County jobs are impacted.
Compost Central Relocation
The Board approved $2.4 million to purchase land to relocate Compost Central. The facility will move from its current location at 5631 West Blvd. to a 50 acre parcel bounded by Rozzelles Ferry Rd., Valleydale Rd. and Fred Alexander Blvd.
MeckLINK Transition Update
County Commissioners voted to create a sub-committee to review the MeckLINK governance structure and transition plan. The committee will report back at the next commission meeting on Nov. 5. In June 2013 state legislators passed a law requiring that MeckLINK to be turned over to an authority with an independent board. Now the county is faced with either creating a single-county authority to oversee MeckLINK or merging it with a multicounty authority.
County Facility Naming Policy
The Board elected to change the County facility naming policy so that it allows the County courthouse to be renamed in the future.
Equal Opportunity Nondiscrimination Policy Change
Commissioners decided to change the current Equal Opportunity Nondiscrimination Policy to reflect the federal policy and include language regarding nondiscrimination based on gender identity.
