Bill James is a Republican serving his ninth term on the Board. James serves on the Board’s Audit Review Committee, which he helped to found a decade ago. Prior to election to office, he served as the first chairman of the City of Charlotte’s Privatization Advisory Committee (1994 to 1996) and was a member of the County’s Citizens Capital Budget Advisory Committee (CCBAC) in 1995.
Commissioner Leake was first elected to the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners in 2008. She currently serves on the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Public Education Steering Committee and the National Association of Counties (NACo) National Board of Large Urban Counties Caucus Steering Committee. Commissioner Leake felt there was a need to create a platform for small business owners to meet, collaborate and network bi-monthly; from this vision came the Small Business Consortium Group, founded by Commissioner Leake in 2011, this group started with five attendees and has grown to 100.
Commissioner James, a CPA for more than 30 years, earned his MBA in accounting from Nova Southeastern University (1980); bachelor of science in accounting from Florida Atlantic University (1978); and an associate of arts degree from Broward Community College (1976). He is married and has four children.
