AIR QUALITY COMMISSIONApply Today!
Purpose: The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners hereby creates the Mecklenburg County Air Quality Commission (AQC) with the mission and duty to promote the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the ambient air resources of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.  The purpose of the AQC shall be to provide citizen and stakeholder input to the Board of County Commissioners, local municipalities and staff through the review and recommendation of air pollution management policies, long-range plans, operations and their budgetary impacts in order to achieve the above mission.
Qualifications: The membership of the Air Quality Control shall be divided according to the following vocations or interests represented:  One (1) Health Professional (HP), One (1) Engineer (E), One Industrial (I), One (1) Scientist (S), One (1) Environmental (E), One (1) Attorney (A), One (1) Transportation (T), and Five (5) Public (P).  The Board shall ensure that at least four (4) members shall reside in the City of Charlotte; at least one (1) member shall reside in the Town of Cornelius (CO), Davidson (D) or Huntersville (HU) and one (1) member shall reside in the Town of Matthews (M), Mint Hill (MH) or Pineville. Must be a resident of Mecklenburg County.

WASTE MANAGEMENT ADVISORY BOARDApply Today!
Purpose: To provide citizen input and evaluation of solid waste management issues in coordination with the Solid Waste Unit of the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency (LUESA), in order to achieve the following goals and objectives:
To assist the County and participating local city and town governments in Mecklenburg County in the development and implementation of a long range waste reduction and management plan that conforms with the requirements of the State and acceptable to the BOCC and the participating local governments
To recommend feasible, and to evaluate recommended, approaches to solid waste management strategies
To assist in developing the most effective allocation of solid waste management functions among the County and all participating local governments
To monitor progress in implementing the Solid Waste Management Plan and to provide recommendations for change
To act as a review & implementation advisory group for solid waste related projects
To provide regulatory oversight of actions and decisions made by LUESA-Solid Waste with respect to various ordinances
To provide an oversight of the process and procedures used by LUESA-Solid Waste with respect to the issuance or denial of solid waste permits and the enforcement of the ordinances and laws & regulations of the State
To hear appeals of LUESA-Solid Waste

GROUNDWATER ADVISORY COMMITTEEApply Today!
Purpose: The responsibilities of the Advisory Committee shall be as follows:
Policy: Review and recommend to the Board of Commissioners groundwater management policies, policy changes, long-range plans, and their budgetary and rate impacts.
Operations Program: Review and comment to the Board of Commissioners on the annual operating budget for their respective service charge areas including but not limited to public education activities and customer service.
Groundwater Appeals: Hear appeals and reach decisions on : denial, modifications, revocation or issuance of well permits and notices of violations.
Variances: Hear appeals from the granting or denial or variances by the Director, and grant variances when appropriate.
Councils, Commissions, and Staff Resource: Respond to the Board of Commissioners and staff requests for advice on matters related to the comprehensive groundwater management program in Mecklenburg County.
Reporting: Present the Board of Commissioners with an annual report of key actions and issues.
Qualifications:
Public - 2 members (individuals to be owners of a well) (GPWO)
Industry, manufacturing or commercial - 1 member (individual to be employed full time in the management and/or operation of industrial, manufacturing, or commercial property that is the owner of a well) (IND)
Environmental Consultant - 1 member (individual to be employed full time in providing environmental consulting services to owners of groundwater wells); (ENV)
Health Professional - 1 member (HLTH)
Realtor or developer or land development design professional - 1 member (individual to be employed full time as a Realtor in land development or the design of building or land improvements); and (REAL DEV)
Well contractor or pump installer - 1 member (individual to be employed full time as a well contractor or pump installer). (WCON)

LAKE WYLIE MARINE COMMISSIONApply Today!
Purpose: To adopt regulations applicable to Lake Wylie and is shoreline area concerning all matters relating to or affecting the use of Lake Wylie; and to preserve and protect property and wildlife and promote public safety within the jurisdiction of the Lake Wylie Marine Commission.
Qualifications: Appointments are made for one three year term and one four year term in rotation by County in the order set out upon creation of commission. Must be a resident of Mecklenburg County.

STORM WATER ADVISORY COMMITTEEApply Today!
Purpose: To review and recommend storm water management policies, policy changes, long-range plans and their budgetary and rate impacts.  Review and comment on capital improvement programs.  Review and comment on the annual operating budget for their respective service charge areas, including but not limited to, public education activities, customer service, and the building and collections system.  Hear appeals and reach decisions on: service charges, credits, and adjustments.  Hear requests for changes from City and County staff and from private parties and make recommendations to the City Council and the Board of County Commissioners on the following matters:  the application, modification, and enforcement of storm water policies.
Qualifications:
Schools, colleges, hospitals, or churches - 1 member
Industry, manufacturing, or commercial - 1 member
Environmental organizations - 1 member
Financial, accounting, or legal professional - 1 member
Developer or land development design professional - 1   member
General Contractor - 1 member
Residential neighborhoods - 3 members
Three members are appointed by Charlotte City Council; Three by the BOCC; One by the towns in the northern part of the County as determined by the northern towns; One by the towns in the southern part of the County as determined by the southern towns; and one member by the eight previously appointed members above. MOUNTAIN ISLAND LAKE MARINE COMMISSIONApply Today!

CMUD ADVISORY COMMITTEEApply Today!
Purpose: To review all Capital Improvement items; review changes in rate-setting methodology; review changes in extension policy;  sit with City Council at any hearings as required; review water and sewer extension requests for which an agreement has not been reached; present annual report to City Council and County Commission; and review other utility matters as requested. Appointments are made for three year terms with no one serving more than two consecutive full terms.
Qualifications: Members must be appointed from the following sectors: real estate developer (RED), water and/or sewer contractor (WSC), civil engineer specializing in water and sewer construction (CE), financial expert (FIN), neighborhood leader (NL), and a member designated by City Council as representing the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville (Towns). Must be a resident of Mecklenburg County.

LAKE NORMAN MARINE COMMISSIONApply Today!
Purpose: Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg county recognize the need for cooperative efforts on Lake Norman dealing with matters of boating, water safety, and recreational uses of the lake.  In 1965, a local Act empowered to four counties to make joint regulations for the safe operation of vessels and for recreational uses of the water.  The Boards of Commissioners of the four participating counties have the power to meet jointly in passing regulations or make regulations through designated representatives of the four counties.  The creation of the Commission was intended to avoid this cumbersome procedure.  The Marine Commission may pass regulations with a maximum fine of $50.  Enforcement may be by the Wildlife Commission (if they concur), the counties (if they concur) or the Marine Commission. Appointments are made for five-year terms with no one serving more than two consecutive full terms.
