The City of Charlotte’s Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP) kicked off its 2013 Career Discovery Day series today with a Business of Football event at Bank of America Stadium. This is the third year that the MYEP has held its Career Discovery Day series and the first year the program has partnered with the Carolina Panthers.

More than 300 Charlotte-Mecklenburg high school students listened to remarks given by Mayor Anthony Foxx and Carolina Panthers Team President Danny Morrison. Carolina Panthers representatives also gave overviews of various departments within the organization - including broadcasting/new media, entertainment, media relations and stadium operations - and the students took a guided tour of the stadium.

“I hope each student recognizes that you have been granted a special opportunity to interact with the Carolina Panthers organization to discover what it takes to work in a football franchise,” Foxx told the students. “Listen, learn, ask questions and get excited about what your future career could hold.”

MYEP Career Discovery Days provide hundreds of Charlotte-Mecklenburg high school students the opportunity to explore various industries including sports, health care, information technology, and government. This year, as many as 400 youth participating in the MYEP program will be placed in summer internships at various businesses and organizations throughout the city.
