Keep Charlotte Beautiful

Keep Charlotte Beautiful LogoKeep Charlotte Beautiful (KCB) was founded in 1974 and is one of the nation's first Keep America Beautiful affiliates.  KCB's objective is to enhance the quality of life for Charlotteans by maintaining and improving the cleanliness and beauty of our City.  The Committee works closely with neighborhood organizations and homeowners' groups, as well as with area businesses, schools and local governments to achieve its goals.

ANNUAL PROJECTS AND GRANTS

Adopt-a-Neighborhood Beautification Grant

Adopt a Neighborhood is a beautification grant program offered by Keep Charlotte Beautiful. At the beginning of each year, the KCB board members select a neighborhood to participate in their neighborhood adoption program through a competitive scoring process. This program was created to fund small beautification projects that enhance the quality of life in Charlotte neighborhoods. There is no cost for the neighborhood to participate, however, it is necessary for neighbors to volunteer and maintain the project after completion. Any Neighborhood or Homeowner Associations within the boundaries of the City of Charlotte are eligible to apply.

The Committee accepts applications for beautification projects ranging from $500 - $5,000. A maximum amount of $5,000 will be awarded each year.

Any beautification project that will make a long lasting or permanent impact to a neighborhood is eligible. Some examples of acceptable projects include, but are not limited to: tree planting, neighborhood entrance signs, landscaping, public art installation, neighborhood park improvements and community gardens.

Neighborhoods must apply by 5:00 pm on February 10, 2012. To apply to be selected for the 2012 Adopt-a-Neighborhood program, download an application. Completed applications can be mailed or emailed to:

How Does Your Garden G.R.O.? Grant

Greening restores our hope, our schools, our families, our pride, our honor, our passion, our creativity, our beauty, our businesses, our vision, our economy, our lives.

Keep America Beautiful recently launched its G.R.O. (Green Restores Our …) initiative. KCB focuses on the G.R.O. initiative by providing a grant (up to $5000) to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools within City of Charlotte limits to establish gardens on school grounds, including rain barrels and composters, providing beautification and educational opportunities for the students.

If your school is interested in competing for this grant opportunity, please submit an application and a video that is five minutes or less, telling KCB how your school, students, parents, and teachers contribute to keeping Charlotte beautiful, clean and green! Be creative!

All applications and videos are due February 27, 2012 by 5:00pm. Applications may be submitted two ways:

Email applications along with a link to where your video can be found on YouTube, Vimeo or other video sharing site to KCB@charlottenc.gov.
