Charlotte's Mayors 1960 - Present

Charlotte's growth mushroomed in the 1960s and has continued through today. Not only has the city's population more than doubled during this time period, but Charlotte has also become a national center with close ties to the global economy.

During this time period, major growth in office structures took place in the center city, SouthPark opened a million square foot mall, Douglas Municipal Airport moved to a new terminal and became Charlotte/Douglas International Airport and a new Coliseum opened as host to an NBA Basketball Team.
