Community House Road Farm-To-Market (Phase 1 & 2)

This project will make improvements to Community House Road from Tamarron Drive to Bryant Farms Road to better serve the community and all roadway users.

What's happened?

In 2013 the Community House Road Farm-To-Market Project was split into two phases due to design changes to the northern portion of the project. Phase 1 from Tamarron Drive to south of Providence Road West will move forward as designed with construction  to begin in November, 2013. Phase 2 from Providence Road West to Bryant Farms Road is being redesigned.  The new design will require more real estate so Phase 2 construction will begin in a later year.

What’s next?
Phase 1 construction  will begin in November 2013 with completion by September 2014.  Phase 2 design is being completed,  followed by real estate acquisitions. Construction will be scheduled once real estate acquisitions are complete.

A Transportation Bond Project

In 2012 a bridge connecting Community House Road over I-485 was unexpectedly added to the State’s widening project. The anticipated traffic increase as a result made it necessary to redesign  the Community House Road Farm-To-Market Project from Providence Road West to Bryant Farms Road.

To allow project improvements south of Providence Rd West to move forward without delay, the project was split into two phases.  Phase 1 will complete improvements to Community House Road from Tamarron Drive to south of Providence Road West. Phase 2 will complete the redesigned improvements from Providence Road West to north of Bryant Farms Road. This project is NOT a road widening. The goal of both phases is to add or improve roadway features to better serve the community and all roadway users, including motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Phase 1 design is complete. Improvements include:

  • Attitional turn lanes
  • New and improved pedestrian crossings
  • Landscaped medians
  • End-to-end uninterrupted sidewalks and bike lanes
  • Additional street lighting

Phase 2 design is underway and will be complete by the end of 2013.  Improvements include:

  • A roundabout at the Bryant Farms Road intersection
  • A roundabout at the Willow Rock Drive intersection (and the entrance to Blakeney District Park)
  • End-to-end uninterrupted sidewalks and bike lanes on Community House Road
  • Sidewalk on the south side of Bryant Farms Road from Community House Road to the YMCA entrance
  • Improved pedestrian crossings
  • Landscaped medians
  • Additional street lighting

Phase 1 construction will begin in Fall 2013. Phase 2 construction is anticipated to begin in 2016 or sooner.
