Plaza / Shamrock Neighborhood Improvement Project

Plaza Shamrock
This project will make infrastructure improvements such as curb and gutter, sidewalk, and storm drainage. The project is bounded by Matheson Avenue, The Plaza, Eastway Drive, Shamrock Drive, and East Ford Road.

What's happened? The first Public Meeting was held on November 6, 2008 at Midwood Baptist Church. Public meeting comments have been compiled and are being reviewed by the project team.

A second Public Meeting was held May 5, 2009 to present three project options where residents were able to vote for their desired option and provide comments.

This project is within one of five Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Projects (CNIP). This project was selected due to the neighborhood showing a decline or weakness in one or more of the assessed dimensions in the Neighborhood Quality of Life Index. Project need is based on addressing substandard and deteriorating neighborhood infrastructure, improving the livability of neighborhoods and preserving the tax base.

The following infrastructure improvements were approved during the 2008-2009 Planning Phase:

Florida Avenue (Matheson to Shamrock): New sidewalk, curb & gutter, and storm drainage improvements.
Simpson Drive (Matheson to Beckwith), Eastwood Drive (Anderson to Academy), Anderson Street (Eastwood to Sugar Creek): Storm drainage improvements.
Hampshire Place, Dade Street (The Plaza to McMillan), McMillan Street, Maywood Drive (Existing sidewalk to Eastwood), Airlie Street (Eastwood to Shamrock), Dalehurst Drive (Eastwood to Elkwood), Elkwood Circle (Dalehurst to Shamrock): New sidewalk.

Objectives:

Maintain, stabilize and revitalize the neighborhood through comprehensive infrastructure improvements
Strengthen the neighborhood and surrounding community

Please note that this is the CNIP funding amount. Additional funding may be identified after the planning phase. Projects typically include all costs associated with planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
