Buildings & Landscaping
CMGCThis division provides a variety of professional, administrative and technical work for City-owned buildings and landscaping including:
  • Beautification and maintenance of grounds on City property
  • Maintenance services for 170 City-owned buildings
  • Construction administration and management of all City-owned and financed building projects
  • Overall management and maintenance for the Government Plaza
Landscape Management
The Landscape Management staff works closely with project managers in the Engineering Services division to coordinate the design of landscaping projects on Charlotte roadways and neighborhood improvement projects.  They also provide services such as grass median and rights-of-way mowing as well as street tree pruning and planting to replace dead or diseased trees on City property.  A highly qualified staff monitor the health of Charlotte's plant life including the dense tree canopy for which Charlotte is known.

Building Services
Through Building Services the City provides round-the-clock maintenance for more than 150 City facilities (4 million sq ft), including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 39 local Fire Stations,13 CMPD Patrol Division offices, and cultural facilities-which include Discovery Place Science Museum, Mint Museum of Art, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the Afro-American Cultural Center.  An experienced staff of HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and project managers provide maintenance, construction, roof and parking lot program management and project management services.  Additionally, staff manages the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center and Parking Deck.  This 400,000 sq. ft. facility is headquarters for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County governments.  Three boards conduct public meetings in the facility: the Charlotte City Council, the Mecklenburg County Commission, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board.

Special Projects
The City provides construction administration and management of all City-owned and financed building projects.  Consultants and contractors perform the design and construction of the buildings under the supervision of project managers, ensuring that projects and schedules are maintained.  The division recently completed the NASCAR Hall of Fame. A team of engineers is currently working on new fire stations and police stations.
