The Charlotte International Cabinet's primary goal is to foster international relationships. These relationships range from exchange programs with our sister cities to direct engagement with local international organizations.

The Charlotte International Cabinet provides the resources to empower private citizens, municipal officials and business leaders to act as citizen diplomats for the City of Charlotte and United States. CIC's programs with its sister cities have made Charlotte a classroom of global understanding.

Charlotte has had sister cities since 1962, when Arequipa, Perú, was established as our first Sister City.  Today, Charlotte has eight sister cities with which it maintains an active, formalized relationship. The CIC is also involved in international programming with other partner cities and institutions.

The CIC actively seeks to collborate with other institutions that serve the Charlotte international community and focus on global issues.  We are at the forefront of the effort to increase cooperation between other international groups in Charlotte. Foremost among these efforts includes the launch of Global Charlotte, an informative and interactive website designed to connect the City of Charlotte to the rest of the world.
