Right of Way Use
The City owns thousands of miles of right-of-way and strives to manage this asset efficiently and fairly. Any work or activities occurring here must be approved and permitted.
This includes utility work for water lines, telephone, cables, electricity and sewer lines. Often construction projects require use of the right-of-way. One example is street lanes leased to stage necessary equipment such as cranes or prohibit access to a controlled construction site, thus providing safety for the traveling public. Other activities within the right-of-way are festivals, parades, special events, and public meetings. Moving houses, buildings or other over-sized objects are managed by the CDOT Development Division's Right-of-Way Management Team.
