Smart Meter Study

The City's on-street parking program conducted a 90-day pilot study to test single-head smart meters beginning November 7, 2013. The study area was on Brevard Street between Stonewall Street and Third Street. This study has concluded and staff is reviewing the results.

Smart meters offer enhancements that standard, coin only parking meters do not such as:

  • Credit card payments (Mastercard, Visa)
  • Prepayment options
  • Reduced downtime (immediate malfunction notification)
  • Solar power

At no cost to the City, CDOT will test two different smart meter products (pictured to the right) for functionality and operational costs. Standard parking rates apply to the spaces and there is no extra fee to the customer for using a credit card. The City invited motorists to use the spaces and provide comments using a survey. Currently staff is reviewing the survey results.
