CLT Breaks Passenger Traffic Record

Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which is owned and operated by the City of Charlotte, broke its passenger traffic record last year, welcoming 39.04 million travelers. That’s a 2 percent increase from 2010, which saw 38.25 million passengers. International passenger traffic also rose by 6 percent in 2011.

As the second largest hub on the east coast, CLT offered nonstop service to 138 destinations and averaged 673 daily departures in 2011. Charlotte Douglas continues embracing passenger growth with the implementation of CLT 2015, a 5-year development plan. Visit http://cltairport.com and click on CLT News to learn more.

Be Sure to Scoop the Poop

Mecklenburg County is home to more than 158,000 dogs which produce more than 52,000 pounds of dog waste every day. Roundworms, E. coli, and Giardia are just a few of the harmful microorganisms that can be transmitted from pet waste to humans. Some can last in your yard for as long as four years if not cleaned up. Children who play outside and adults who garden are at greatest risk of infection.

Pet waste is one of the causes of bacterial contamination of streams in Mecklenburg County. But the solution is safe and easy: 1) Scoop the poop, 2) put it in a plastic bag, 3) place it in the trash, and 4) wash your hands.

For more information and suggestions, visit the Storm Water Services’ animal waste page.
