CFD Explorer Program

Explorersgear.jpgThe Charlotte Fire Department Explorer Post was developed in 1982 with a primary purpose of providing fire service career awareness to young men and women. Over the course of the last 33 years, nearly 500 young adults have enjoyed the memorable experience of learning what it takes to become a  firefighter. This  hands-on experience is accomplished through a program that utilizes classroom lectures, practical applications, and opportunities to ride along with fire crews. Our program seeks to instill in each explorer member the importance of obtaining a college education, being a responsible citizen, and most of all striving to be the best that you can be.

Find out more about becoming a CFD Explorer at an Open House. It's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the CFD Training Academy, 1770 Shopton Road in Charlotte.

Young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 are encouraged to come out and take an up close and personal look at what our Explorer Post has to offer.  All young people in attendance will be given an opportunity to register and become a member of our Post. Parents or legal guardians are welcome to attend.  However, if you are under the age of 18 you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. We will have applications available for completion on-site.
