Youth Engagement Unit
​The goal of the Youth Engagement Unit is to provide a continuum of services for youth, who are at risk of or involved in delinquent or criminal activity, designed to reduce the number of youth referred to the criminal justice system, delinquent or criminal activity by youth, and delinquent or criminal recidivism by youth.
 
  Level 1 - Prevention
Programs and services to keep youth out of the criminal justice system and gang involvement, includes targeted community engagement initiatives and education

 

  • Youth up to 18 years of age
  • No Involvement with Criminal Justice, exhibiting risky behaviors
  • Client and family recommended for scholarship to appropriate services with emphasis upon CMPD sponsored prevention programs, such as PAL, RMFY, etc.
  • Prevention education in community, school, and congregation
  • Community engagement through surveys, meetings, resource fairs, call-in’s, and/or trainings in targeted neighborhoods

Level 2 - Diversion
Programs and services to divert youth from the criminal justice system and gang involvement

  • Youth up to 18 years of age
  • Minimal Involvement with Criminal Justice, first-time 
     non-violent or status offender
  • Client and family recommended for scholarship to appropriate services with emphasis upon life skills, Teen Court, Youth Development Initiative, and other professional services

Level 3 - Intervention
Programs and services to divert youth from continued involvement in the criminal justice system and gang involvement

  • Youth up to 20 years of age
  • Significant involvement with Criminal Justice
  • Client and family recommended for scholarship to appropriate services, based upon level of criminality, with emphasis upon life skills, education, vocation, and employment and CMPD sponsored programs such as Community Services Association, Urban League, Q-Foundation, etc.
