Expect Delays Near the Airport due to Construction
Construction Advisory: Update #2

On-going communication regarding roadway construction impacts at CLT. Previous update(s) below.

Drivers can expect delays near Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Rental Car and Airport Loop roads beginning 7 a.m. on Monday, October 28, running through Monday, November 4. Portions of these roads will be temporarily closed due to on-going construction of the Airport’s new entrance road.

Drivers will not be able to access Airport Loop Road from Rental Car Road during this time. Signs, barricades and barrels will be in place; however, drivers should avoid the impacted area. To help ease congestion, the Daily North parking lot will be closed.

This temporary closure is in addition to continuing construction on Little Rock and Old Dowd roads that began last month.

Drivers coming to the Airport are asked to:

  • plan accordingly and use Harlee Avenue or Josh Birmingham Parkway for direct access to the terminal.

  • utilize Cell Phone Lot 2, which is adjacent to the Budget Rent-A-Car Return Center and provides easy access to the terminal.

  • use Marshall Drive and Old Dowd Road when accessing rental car facilities.

The Airport’s new entrance road will improve connections from Wilkinson Boulevard and Josh Birmingham Parkway to the terminal. It is scheduled to open in fall 2014. An inbound lane on Josh Birmingham Parkway to the terminal, however, could open in December, creating a more direct path to the Airport. Here is a link to see what the new Airport Entrance Road will look like when complete.

Construction Advisory: Update #1
Friday, September 6, 2013

Drivers can expect delays near Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Little Rock and Old Dowd roads beginning Monday, September 9 and running through mid-November due to construction of the Airport’s new entrance road.

Crews plan to close the turning lane on Little Rock Road at the intersection of Old Dowd Road and Wilkinson Boulevard.

To help ease congestion, access between Little Rock Road to Old Dowd Road should be limited to local Airport traffic only.

Drivers coming to the Airport are asked to plan accordingly and use Harlee Avenue or Josh Birmingham Parkway for direct access to the terminal.

To assist motorists, temporary electronic directional signs have been strategically placed on roadways leading to CLT.
