Solid Waste Services All Curb It! collection services were suspended on Tuesday, January 20 due to hazardous neighborhood road conditions that did not improve until mid-afternoon. Solid Waste Services was already operating on a one-day delay due to the observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. In order to get collection services back on schedule, Solid Waste is suspending yard waste, bulky item and recycling collection for the remainder of this week.
Recycling and yard waste collection will resume on Monday, January 26. Bulky items that were scheduled for collection during the week of January 19 will be collected the week of January 26.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities Utilities has not experienced much difference in water and sewer operations because of the weather. However, they are addressing even the smallest water leaks as high-priority repairs because of the threat of it becoming a freezing/road hazard.
Transportation (CDOT) The Charlotte Department of Transportation crews have completed salting all of the major and minor thoroughfares and collector streets in the City. Twelve salt trucks will be treating problem areas through out the night such as bridges, culverts and frozen spots.
Some City streets are expected to refreeze overnight and may present problems for morning commuters. Citizens are asked to be cautious and alert for black ice and frozen bridge decks. CDOT will not extend the salting to residential streets unless for emergency vehicle access.
