City Awarded Recovery Grant for Diesel Emissions

August 14, 2009

Charlotte, NC --  The North Carolina Department of Environment & Natural Resources, Air Quality Division (DENR) notified Charlotte August 11, 2009 that the City will be awarded $80,000 to install diesel particulate filters on Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) shuttle buses.  This award will allow the Airport to install  Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) on five shuttle buses.

The original application was made April 27, 2009 for $216,800 to include thirteen shuttle buses and eight dump trucks.

The retrofits will reduce particulate matter, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, which will create a healthier environment for passengers and maintenance workers. CLT has partnered with Mecklenburg County Air Quality to gain technical support as necessary to help ensure a successful project.
