City Ceremony Honors the Crew of US Airways Flight 1549

Charlotte, NC -- Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory led a City ceremony to honor the heroism of the crew that safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. The event was held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center's Meeting Chamber.
"This event provided the City of Charlotte the opportunity to say thank you to the crew for returning our Charlotte citizens safely back home," stated Mayor McCrory. "It was an honor to meet the crew and thank them in person for their heroism."
The Mayor honored the crew with a proclamation and a special token of appreciation that will be permanently on display as a reminder of their heroism upon which future generations can reflect.
The recognition event will aired live on The Government Channel (Time Warner Cable 16) and on the City of Charlotte's website, www.charmeck.org. It will re-telecasts throughout the coming weeks.
Charlotte-area passengers of Flight 1549 were invited to the event, which was open to the public.
