Stephanie Kelly Appointed City Clerk

Charlotte, NC -- Stephanie C. Kelly has been named City Clerk for the City of Charlotte effective December 1, 2008. She replaces Brenda Freeze who retired after 25 years of service. Kelly joined the City of Charlotte in 2004 as Deputy City Clerk with 20 years of local government experience in her hometown of Shelby, NC.
As City Clerk, Stephanie Kelly is one of the three employees appointed by the Mayor and City Council. She is responsible for maintaining the official schedule of City Council meetings, compiling the Council agenda, creating and maintaining the official minutes of Council proceedings, serving as custodian of all permanent City records and the City Seal, attesting of City documents, updating the City Code of Ordinances book, administering Council's appointments to the various Advisory Boards and Commissions, and providing staff support for the Citizens' Review Board and the Civil Service Board.
In addition to a bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro and a Master of Business Administration degree from Gardner-Webb University, Kelly has earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk and is a Board Member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
