Charlotte to Receive North Carolina Historic Marker

November 26, 2008

Charlotte, NC -- The North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources approved a historical marker to be installed in Charlotte to commemorate the site of the first North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) meeting held in Charlotte in 1908. The marker and installation event is made possible through a sponsorship by Duke Energy and will be unveiled Tuesday, December 2th at 4:45 p.m.

The site was the former location of the Charlotte Academy of Music and Selwyn Hotel. Today that site is referred to as the 200 block of South Tryon Street between 3rd and 4th Streets. The marker will be located in front of the restaurant, McCormick and Schmick's.

The sponsorship and dedication of the marker was announced in October during the NCLM Centennial Conference in Charlotte. Attending the dedication will be NCLM past presidents, NCLM staff, Elected Officials, City staff, and Duke Energy Representatives.
