Utilities Responds to Water Main Breaks

June 18, 2008

Charlotte, NC --  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities continues rapid response to new water main breaks today. We currently are responding to the following:

  • 1900 block of South Boulevard
Both southbound lanes are or will be closed, with traffic for both directions routed to the northbound lanes. About 10 customers are experiencing water service interruption.
  • Sharon Road near the entrance to SouthPark Mall
Both southbound lanes are or will be closed, with traffic for both directions routed to the northbound lanes. We do not expect an interruption in water service.
  • 1700 block of Dilworth Road

We also are working on some smaller neighborhood streets at Iverson Way and Griffith Road. These and a few other recent leaks have occurred within a specific geographic area south of downtown, and most have occurred since the leak on the 54-inch water main along Providence Road was discovered last Friday.

As we respond to and repair these water lines, we are tracking the location and nature of each repair and are exploring whether there is any correlation. If so, we will determine any necessary action we can take to minimize and prevent further leaks.

We'll continue updating www.cmutilities.com on the News & Updates section.
