Public Meeting Held on Paw Creek/ CSX RR Street Closures
June 11, 2008
Charlotte, NC -- A public workshop is scheduled on Tuesday, June 24 to gather citizen input about the potential closings of Kenstead Circle and Craig Street at the CSX railroad crossings in the Paw Creek Area.
There will be no formal presentations at the workshop which will be held between the hours of 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mt. Holly Road in Charlotte. The format allows citizens to individually review information and to ask questions of City, State and railroad staff.
In January 2007, the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) entered into an agreement to improve railroad crossing safety within the city. City staff has been contacted by CSX Railroad officials that are concerned with the safety of motorists and trains at Kenstead Circle and Craig Street, and has strongly recommended that measures be taken to reduce or eliminate collision exposure at these crossings.
Information will also be available at the workshop concerning other proposed area transportation projects and general railroad safety.
