This application is governed by the Recovery Act: Edward Byrne memorial Competitive Grant program under Category 1: Comprehensive Community-Based Data-Driven Approaches to Preventing and Reducing Violent Crime.
Central Avenue Weed and Seed will be able to expand existing programs along the Weed and Seed Corridor. The Central Avenue Corridor is an area of the City of Charlotte that has experienced tremendous change in demographic and socioeconomic composition. It is home to one of the fastest growing areas of immigrant population (Hispanic, African, Asian and Caribbean) in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area.
The money would be directed toward expanding the current Small Business Support program, Truancy Intervention and Prevention Program, Work Readiness Program and provide resources to the community.
