$150 million

Competitive Grant Process

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
US Dept. of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security received $150 million in discretionary grants to improve security in public transportation systems.

According to CATS, there are two projects that they will apply to receive funding:
   (1) Digital Cameras/Surveillance System for CATS ($1 million)
   (2) Rail Simulator ($750,000). This would improve driver training while reducing the costs and risks associated with utilizing an actual light rail vehicle for much of the training for new drivers.
