Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
Program provides formula funds for transit capital projects and requires a 1% set aside for Transit Enhancements and 1% for Transit Security. These projects are eligible for a 100% federal funding share. The funds will be used to upfit the North Davidson Street Maintenance Garage ($21 million). The money will be applied to renovate the existing Bus Maintenance Garage to consolidate Special Transportation Services (STS) and the central bus maintenance garage into a joint facility. The project includes renovation and new construction on a City-owned facility.
Eligible projects include capital projects in the adopted Long Range Transportation Plan and approved State and Local Transportation Improvement Programs. Environmental clearances must be complete or nearly complete to obligate the project funding within 180 days and the project must be completed within two years.
