Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds may be used to provide affordable housing, services and jobs for the most vulnerable in our community. At least 70% of CDBG funds must be used for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income persons. in addition, each activity must meet one of the following objectives:
- benefit low- and moderate-income persons
- prevention or elimination of slums or blight
- address community development needs having a particular urgency.
On May 26, 2009 City Council approved the use of the funds to rehabilitate 30 owner-occupied single family homes. These homes will be located in targeted revitalization neighborhoods. Druid Hills, Lakewood, Lincoln Heights, Reid Park Thomasboro/ Hoskins, Washington Heights and Wingate neighborhoods. The program will be available to households earning 60% or less than the area median income ($39,900 for a family of four). Many of the homeowners are seniors earning 30% or less than the area median income ($19,950 for a family of four).
The City received Funding Approval/ Agreement from HUD on July 27, 2009.
