keeping watch on plastics

The City of Charlotte partnered with the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and the UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture for the 2014 KEEPING WATCH on PLASTICS initiative. This initiative is part of a three-year program bringing a higher profile to and engaging the public in issues surrounding the environment.

As a partner, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center plaza was featured as a location for one of two recycled art exhibits installed in Charlotte. The City's Solid Waste Services department provided staff and equipment to transport and install the recycled plastic bales at both the Government Center and at Discovery Place.

The recycled art projects were part of the larger initiative that included two other art exhibitions in the city and three events bringing attention to plastic recycling throughout spring and summer of 2014. For more information on the KEEPING WATCH initiative, please visit
