About Our Site

Screen Resolution

This site is designed for 1024 x 768 screen resolution with your font size defaulted to medium (Check your screen resolution). We recognize that variations in toolbars, operating systems and customized display elements will alter your viewable screen area. If you encounter difficulty we recommend that you investigate the methods and feasibility of increasing the screen resolution of your monitor. However, any and all modifications performed by you are entirely your responsibility and Mecklenburg County assumes no liability, expressed or implied, as relates to any such modifications however or by whomever motivated (more info).

Browser Versions

Our site is designed to accommodate Netscape 4.x and up as well as Internet Explorer 4.x and up. It is generally compatible with all later generation browsers and performs especially well with the newest versions of Internet Explorer (Get information about your browser :basic info  detailed info). We have generally avoided the use of client side scripting and use cookies only as necessary in an effort to provide the best browsing experience possible. Please notify us of any technical issues you encounter.

Cookies and how we use them

We do not use cookies to track where you visit outside MecklenburgCountyNC.gov. Mecklenburg County Government is not monitoring your web browsing habits through cookies. Cookies are used by some MecklenburgCountyNC web applications, including the website in general, to pass needed information from one page to the next. Rejecting a cookie in many applications will render the application useless. For example, in our Address Information Center application, a cookie is used to let the server remember your search results so that you can look up more than one property without having to re-query the database.

We do not record any personal information in our logs or your cookies.

Applications use cookies to track the session through randomly generated ID numbers that cannot be traced back to any personal or private information. These cookies are set to expire when you terminate your browser session.

What happens if I don't accept your cookies?

Many browsers can be set to warn you before accepting cookies. If you do not accept a cookie from our site, nothing horrible will happen. However, some interactive applications (for example, the job listings or the real estate information system) will not work as designed and certain features may not be available to you. If you decline the cookie in one of these applications, the server will continue to try to send you a cookie with each page of the application you request. This means you will be confronted by the "Accept Cookie/Decline Cookie" dialog box each time you request a page.

Because our cookies can't hurt you and don't contain any confidential or personal information and only help us make the site more usable for you, you should accept them and feel confident that you have not sacrificed anything as a result.

Need more information?

For a good overview of cookies, see the Cookie Central site http://www.cookiecentral.com/ , a web site "dedicated to provide full information upon Internet Cookies."

If you have any questions or concerns about cookies and their use on the Mecklenburg County Web Site beyond what is covered here, please contact the Webmaster.
