Chronic Care

Chronic Care is a crisis-oriented 23 hour service provided with the cooperation of law enforcement designed for the purpose of providing safe shelter (rather than incarceration) for residents of Mecklenburg County observed to be publicly intoxicated.

Mecklenburg County residents who are intoxicated and non-violent and who are not initially ready for social setting detoxification should be provided with a safe place to become sober rather than be incarcerated.

Expected Outcome

The expected outcome is a reduction in public health and safety concerns as well as reduced cost to taxpayers when compared to incarceration.
